or Another Reason for Riders to Appreciate Via Bus Shelter in the Bronx .  No stoplight or stop sign to facilitate street crossing.  Not much shelter either. Waiting for the Subway Riding the Subway Downtown At the Guild for the Blind in Manhattan 1983: Handicapped riders are on their own .  No assistance across streets, down stairs,  navigating transportation changes or protection on subways.

Via Colorado for the busbound and chairbound stories, humor and helpful tidbits for drivers and riders Dirty Street Cripples Not the name of an indie rock group. This appellation was used by someone in the establishment disability world describing grassroots activists (I'm just the messenger here). These Dirty Street Cripples were pushing congressional legislation in Washington, D.C. to protect those who couldn't help themselves and to give people with disabilities better lives. This includes people who are warehoused in nursing homes, as well as thoughtful articulate people whose limitations keep them from going out in the world. Why is she smiling? I didn't ask her to have a serious face to create a more impactful photographic. I'm just the messenger. This is someone who enjoys life and being in this world.
